So what will I do with all these Batman figures? Play the Batman miniatures game? Maybe. What I will do with all these Batman figures is play a rather insane ATZ campaign I'm calling Outbreak in Gotham. The ATZ Final Fade Out campaign with a decidedly Gotham City twist. In the full Final Fade Out campaign the outbreak has just begun everyone is a civilian and know one can tell who is a zombie until they are up close. I now have over a dozen batman figures in this game they'll be mystery PEF tokens not to be revealed until a figure gets within Rep in inchs of the Batman. The the Batman is removed and a Human or Zed encounter is revealed. That's just the first 21 days, after that society really starts breaking down and all characters choose to become a survivor or a ganger.

I spotted a deal at an internet retailer during Black Friday a small mention of Spanish language 4 figure packs of DC hero Heroclick for a dollar per pack. So I bought 12 of them. Yup 48 Heroclick figures from the Batman line for $12! I tossed in some Mantic Dreadzone figures, some Bones and a couple of Horrorclick and called it a day. Well my rather large box arrive this evening, I purchased 67 figures for less than $50 shipping included!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04802420094217299660noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5744626789946857636.post-85813104319074175042015-12-10T20:11:00.000-08:002015-12-12T05:21:09.188-08:00To Mr. Sheets and all the Ships at Sea

James Blaylock on inventing "Steampunk" 2007

"Homunculus (Blaylock's first steampunk novel) was simply a variety of historical novel that I had written largely because I was crazy for The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and I had grown up reading Jules Verne and H.G. Wells, and my idea of science fiction had always had to do with backyard scientists and fabulous submarines and spacecraft that housed onboard greenhouses. And of course no one had heard the word "Steampunk" (or Cyberpunk, either) back when Tim, K.W. Jeter, and I were first writing our Victoriana. The term hadn't been coined yet, and wouldn't be for years. And certainly we had no idea that we were inventing a sub-genre of science fiction. We were merely writing stories that amused us."Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04802420094217299660noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5744626789946857636.post-48336594975657179232015-11-22T13:00:00.000-08:002015-11-22T13:00:27.862-08:00Steampunk Literature
Parsons nodded wearily. "Oxford man. Renegade academician. They're a dangerous breed when they go feral, academics are. Higgins was a chemist, too. Came back from the Orient with insane notions about carp."

One might think the above statement was a comment about my readers it is in fact a quote from LORD KELVIN"S MACHINE by James Blaylock. A most excellent book certainly the best of the so called Steampunk literary genre.
Steampunk was a term coined by the press to describe the writings of James Blaylock and his roommate K. W. Jeter. Jeter was the protege of Phillip K. Dick author of the book that spawned the movie Bladerunner, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep. In 1987 Jeter wrote Infernal Devices a Victorian Fantasy. This was the very first "Steampunk" novel. Don't let any of these johnny come latelys fool you.
Bob was an actuary for a life insurance company a statistical annalist. The sheer statistical improbability of a zombie apocalypse broke his mind. Now its Bob and his trusty ginsu knife (guaranteed for a lifetime) against the chaos. (Bob is a Hasselfree figure I started painting back in 2009. I still feel I got him wrong especially the face. I might do him over again some day.)

Astute readers will notice I missed a week of Zombtober I hope to make it up in the beginning of November.
The Zombie Incident of 1888, as many of you readers know, has been a part of this blog for years now. In an attempt to organize what's been swirling around in my head in a semi-organized manner I've started a thread on LAF to try to tell the story of The Zombie Incident of 1888. Please take a look.
Work is beating me senseless a the moment, I don't know how many hours I've worked this past weekend. During Zombtober no less!!! There is no respect for the dead I tell you! I had dug up some photos of my ATZ set up from Way Back in 2009! As you can see Harely gets all the cool rides. Urges we all have them some are dark and some are some are just twisted (Ray???). An urge has come upon me one which I have not experienced for a long time. An urge to play a game of ATZ
(All Things Zombie). I am painting up some modern survivors as Stars for the 2 to 4 people who will play Halloween weekend. I'll be dragging out card terrain made back in 2009 for ATZ. That's right Gentle Readers I'll be taking a little spin in the way back machine to the time I first discovered wargame blogging! Yes gentle readers its Zomtober! The time for zombie festivities and here at Fiends in Waistcoats that means painting zombies!!!! I'll be expanding the Victorian Zombie hoard and, if I have time, finish off some characters for ZI. Fist I'm taking stock of the current sat of the horde err small gather pictured above. Now let's look at the figures I have half done that have been laying about in need of attention. If I get half of these finished off it will be a productive month. Here are the zombies awaiting paint.
The Hutts, Tatooine is part of the galactic rim known as "Hutt Space" though its nominally controlled by the Empire in the first Star Wars movie its really controlled by Jabba the Hutt. My Star Wars escapades will be set after Return of the Jeddi when the Rebel Alliance is engaged in a full on war with the Empire. At this time (in my mind) the Hutts try to throw the Empire out of their "space". So Storm Troopers vs the forces of the Hutts. I'm collecting and converting figures to represent these Hutt troops.
But that will wait as Zomtober 2015 is nearly upon us! I have many zombies waiting to be finished off. I've successfully finished off a few zombies each Zombtober so I expect to get more done this one.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04802420094217299660noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5744626789946857636.post-19458931462419490512015-09-09T14:14:00.000-07:002015-09-09T14:14:00.892-07:00Blog Inturuptus

My blogging, blog reading, not to mention hobby work has been interrupted yet again by work! I have begun digging up figures to use in my Star Wars project. The metal figure next to Ric the Rodian is a Reaper D&D monster called Astral Reaver Monk. When I'm done with him he'll be an alien jedi hermit on Tatooine. A popular planet for jedi to hid out on. He ia a little thicker than the WOTC stuff but otherwise fits in well. More progress this Sunday.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04802420094217299660noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5744626789946857636.post-91181022467429711742015-09-02T03:48:00.001-07:002015-09-02T03:48:07.864-07:00WOTC Rebel Marines

Whats a Star Wars game without the Rebel Marines? A poor one to be sure. I have enough of them to make 2 8-man squads. in WEG to make 2 squads in WEG, WOTC has put out several poses much better to my mind than FFG's single Rebel trooper sculpt for Imperial Assault.

I actually have more that 16 but some of the WOTC releases are larger than the others as you can see in the photo.

This is the Galoob Action Fleet toy that came packaged with the black speeder from last post it appears in the expanded edition of the New Hope. (original Star Wars movie) This animal is used by a Jawa to haul freight and will make useful terrain.

This it a Bantha ridden by a Tuskin Raider. This picture includes Ric the Rodian for scale. The Action Fleet Bantha has dolls hair glued on its back under the saddle. So if you have one of those little toy pony combs you could comb your Bantha. Besides the hair the other issue this toys has are feet whole in the Bantha's which don't look right. In addition to removing the hair I'll have to re-position the rider and fill in the back holes, But on the plus side he's awfully cute.

The Bantha is packaged with Luke's speeder.
This is a Dewback a creature native to Tatooine used by sand troopers. The sandt rooper rider is too small about 20mm and thus I'll have to replace him. Again Ric the Rodian is in the picture for scale. The Dewback is packaged with the escape pod R2D2 and C3PO use to land on Tatooine.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04802420094217299660noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5744626789946857636.post-29270177850608226652015-08-26T16:40:00.000-07:002015-08-26T16:40:21.788-07:00Speeders

These are Galoob Action Fleet toys I got off Amazon.com. They look rather small in the packages

But they are actually a good size for the realistically proportioned WOTC 28mm figures. I'm sure they would seem too small against the larger Imperial Assault figures.

Here are the package backs of the Action Fleet sets these speeders come from.

I decided to purchase some WOTC (wizards of the coast) Star Wars figures from their now defunct pre-painted collectible miniatures game. They are cast in a very bendy plastic, a little like giant Arifix figures, and are 28mm with realistic proportions. Nearly every character in the movies and from the 1990's & comic books are represented in the WOTC line. They can be had on the internet very cheaply. A few of the later sets are produced in 30-32mm and don't fit well with the earlier ones. More on that in future posts.
As you can see bending out of shape is an issue with these figures. I've been experiencing technical difficulty requiring a full reinstall of Windows and now tonight I dropped & broke my digital camera! So all pictures are taken with a cell phone.

Work has begun on a Tatooine board for my Star Wars game. I'm playing a game where the Hutts battle the Empire for complete control of Tatooine. There wil be battles against the Tusken raiders too. You will see screen captures from the enhanced Star Wars The New Hope film of Mos Eisley Tatooine's spaceport. These are my board reference pictures. Short post I know but there isn't anything worth showing at this point. I have ordered a set of photographic lights so I should have proper pictures in the blog in a week or to.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04802420094217299660noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5744626789946857636.post-81135785732782259442015-08-05T06:00:00.000-07:002015-08-05T06:00:01.130-07:00Richard Garretson's Batcave

Long time readers will recall my friend Richard and his wonderful miniature collections. I highlighted both his Victorian and Pulp Egyptian collections on this blog. Now he is working on a 1930's gangsters collection with Batman! This is his impressive Batcave. It incorporates the Playmobile Batcave and a special promotional Heroclix Batcave interior. He converted a Alfred holding cowl & cape for this collection.
I've been experimenting this weekend with mold making I haven't done any mold other than press molds in years so I got out and old jar of Woodland Scenics Latex Rubber to make a mold. I've had this jar lying around for 6 years or so. That's wasn't so good as its thicker than is should be, but I'm pressing on. I'm trying a wrap around mold (never made one before) on a plastic fence bit. These molds take a long time as they are built up in layers painted on with a brush. I'm going to finish it today.
The other Saturday experiment was snow. I made a snow base using baking soda and white glue it looks great as you can see below. So now I have a snow method I like for my Frostgrave stuff. Yes I've been bitten by the shinny bug and I'm digging up old fantasy miniatures to play Joe's game. At least some of the Frostgrave terrain will do double duty in Weird WW2. That's it for today Gentle readers.
Statuary; Toffs love it, the working class wonder at it and the destitute lean against it. Statuary in Victorian London took a decidedly Romanesque turn as the Toffs likened themselves to the Caesars of old. I wanted to capture some of that feel in my London Board with a public street column and a Toff garden. Fortuitously I was offered some spures of 1/72 scale bendy plastics by a fellow blogger. I had access to some old HirstArt fantasy molds the two together equals statues!
This is a Dark Alliance fantasy Amazon mounted on a pillar as my column monument. I realize that this isn't very historically accurate but my post apocalyptic Victorian London will be darker (if that's possible) than the real thing. And she looks damn good up there. The pillar molds contain some sort of runes which will be filled in with milliput so don't worry about them.
More Dark Alliance Amazons and an Atlantic Greek civilian for the Toff garden. I squared off the Amazon bases I think I'll have to do that with the column one too.
This is an Atlantic Greek he is historical but I'm not sure he is right for a column. I do have two of them and they might look better flanking the entrance to a building. Let me know what you guys think. I'm starting a terrain binge for ZI and Frostgrave. Yes Frostgrave I've been bitten by the new & shinny bug and I just can't help it.
